Happy New Year!
With the holidays behind us, you may find yourself taking a deep breath and being 100% content with an afternoon snuggled up on the couch! I get it.
But as the days pass and energy is restored, you'll soon find yourself ready to get out and play again! Whether you live in the area or you're considering a move to the Arkansas Valley, here are five fun local ideas you can enjoy for $7 or less!!! Head out and enjoy any number of them this January or tuck them in your pocket for the future!
How we’ve lived here for 10 years and just now visited the ice rink in Leadville is beyond me! It was only 19 degrees the day we went but we stayed for hours and had so much fun! The cost for admission plus the skate rental was just $7/person. There were hockey sticks and pucks available to use, skate helpers, a fire ring to warm up around and a simple concession stand where you could grab a snack!
Have a few hours on your hands and want to get some movement in? Visit Huck Finn Ice Rink in Leadville!
This idea is an oldie but a goodie! Love a good laugh and making questionable life decisions?! 😂
Take a ride down Dutch Henry Sledding Hill!
This sledding hill, located in Leadville, is open to the public and FREE if you take your own tube or sled! Don’t own a tube or sled? No problem! Lake County residents can rent a tube there for just $5 an hour! (The price for non-residents is $10/hour.) Click below for all the details!
Last week I came home from skiing and told my husband that I think my favorite winter activity is hot tubbing. Who’s with me?!
I’ll rally with the best of them but I love a good, hot soak! Interested in an indoor activity that lets the kids stretch their legs and expend all their energy? Althoughs adult are a few dollars more, kids swim for $7 or less at the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center! Their hot pool includes a zero entry area for the littles, while the lap pool includes a water slide, climbing wall and diving board! Check out their website for a list of rates and hours.
Love a quiet, cozy space? These next two ideas are for you!
Did you know BV has a theater?! Of course there’s the drive-in, but there’s an indoor theatre too! The Stardust Event Center is located on County Road 306, just 2.5 miles west of the stoplight. We went with friends to watch Elf over Christmas break and were surprised to learn that everything was FREE! As concessions are limited, you’re encouraged to bring your own snack and drink. So stop by Stedman's, grab your favorite soda and, my favorite, white cheddar jalapeño popcorn, and head to The Stardust for a FREE movie! This Friday you can catch the new Matilda the Musical at 6:00. Full a full schedule of this months events or to rent the venue for a private event, be sure to check out their website!
And last but not least, if you love a good cup of coffee, be sure to check out The Midland Stop! Under new ownership, you can find these friendly faces behind the counter! Love their chai? Don’t worry! It’s still the same delicious cup you’ve come to know and love! Take the kids, stop by the library to borrow a book or game and treat yourself to an hour of some R+R at The Midland Stop in South Main!
Ice skating, sledding, swimming, movies, coffee + a book.
let me know which of these you'll be trying this month! Thinking of relocating to the area?! Send me your questions about real estate or the area in general... I'd love to help!
Until next time!
